May 21, 2018

Ellen Weber, a passionate advocate for entrepreneurship, innovation and investment, is the 2018 receipt of the Iris Newman Award, an honor bestowed by the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) to a woman who exhibits a trailblazing spirit, inspiring leadership, and support for women in the entrepreneurial community.

Weber is executive director of Temple University’s Fox School of Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute, and an assistant professor of entrepreneurship. She is also executive director of Robin Hood Ventures, a leading angel group helping to fuel startup growth in the Mid-Atlantic region. She is a dynamic and effective force in the Philadelphia startup community, supporting Philly Startup Leaders, the PACT Conference and AWE.

Previously, Weber was the co-founder of VisionMine, which provides corporations with early insight and access to startup companies and their innovations. She has more than 25 years of experience building strong teams and leaders for emerging companies, as well as Fortune 500 clients. She is a graduate of The Wharton School with a B.S. in economics.

Weber’s considerable experience also includes serving as a founder and managing director of Antiphony Partners, LLC, a strategic consulting firm that specializes in helping companies create sustainable value through innovation. She was involved in the growth of Investor Force, a provider of technology-based solutions for institutional investment professionals, where she created the company’s initial human resources department, facilitated strategic planning, and managed the organizational aspects of the company’s mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, she spent 12 years at Shared Medical Systems where she was responsible for initiatives encompassing organizational development, customer support and corporate communications.

“Ellen is a proven leader in team building, organizational development, strategic planning and entrepreneurial education, as well as a pillar of the Philadelphia community,” says Victoria Burkhart, AWE executive director. “Her passion for innovation, entrepreneurship, and funding makes her an ideal choice.”

The award is presented in honor and in memory of Iris Newman, an AWE founder, who made an incredible impact in advancing women entrepreneurs. It has been given to an outstanding woman of achievement each year since 2002.

Weber will receive the award at The Intersection, an event that brings together AWE’s entire, expansive network to identify new founders with promise, connect founders who have already achieved, and recognize the community that supports both of their efforts to grow. It is a rare opportunity to connect with AWE’s dynamic network face- to-face and to celebrate women’s high-growth entrepreneurship. The Intersection will be on November 12, 2018 from 5 to 8 at Convene at the Cira Center, 2929 Arch Street, Philadelphia.
